History

Lake Mackenzie has a rich history and has been commissioned as a Texas Historic Landmark.  Archeological sites in the area have recently unearthed the Equus Scotti, an extinct horse from the Pleistocene era.  This fossil was discovered on Lake property by a group of home schooled science children that were on a science field trip in May of 2008.  In addition, in the following eleven months, a total of 5 Equus Scotti have been found in the area.  The home schooled children and their parents (under the advisement of geological professionals) have completed all the excavations, preservation, and research work regarding these discovered fossils.  The Equus Scotti Horse is on display along with other fossils at Mackenzie Bait and Tackle.
